Introduction
Muhammad ibn Abdullah (محمد بن عبد الله) ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) is the final prophet and messenger of ALLAH. He was born in Mecca around 570 CE and died in Medina in 632 CE. In 63 years, he transformed Arabia — and ultimately the world — through a message of Tawheed, justice, and mercy.
Muslims believe he is the last in a long line of prophets that includes Adam, Nuh (Noah), Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), and Isa (Jesus) (Peace Be Upon Them All) — all carrying the same essential message: worship ALLAH alone.
Early Life: The Trustworthy One
Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) was born into the noble Quraysh tribe. His father died before his birth; his mother died when he was six. He was raised first by his grandfather, then by his uncle Abu Talib.
From a young age, he was known as Al-Amin (الأمين) — "The Trustworthy" — and As-Sadiq — "The Truthful." Even those who later opposed his message never questioned his honesty. At 25, he married Khadijah (رضي الله عنها), a respected businesswoman. Their marriage was one of love, partnership, and unwavering mutual support.
The First Revelation (610 CE)
At the age of 40, while meditating in the Cave of Hira above Mecca, the Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) appeared and commanded: "Read!" Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) replied that he could not read. Jibreel embraced him and revealed the first words of the Quran:
ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ
“Read in the name of your Lord who created — Created man from a clinging substance. Read, and your Lord is the Most Generous.”
Shaken and terrified, he returned to Khadijah, who comforted him. She was the first to believe in his prophethood. This marked the beginning of a 23-year mission that would change the world.
The Mission: Calling to Tawheed
The core of the Prophet's ﷺ message was the same as every prophet before him: worship ALLAH alone. For the first 13 years in Mecca, he called his people to Islam. The response was fierce persecution — especially against the vulnerable and those without tribal protection. Despite torture, boycotts, and exile, the early Muslims held firm.
The Migration to Medina (622 CE)
In 622 CE, following a divine command and an invitation from the people of Yathrib (later called Medina), the Prophet ﷺ migrated with his Companions. This Hijrah marks Year 1 of the Islamic calendar.
In Medina, he established the first Muslim community — building the first mosque, arbitrating disputes between tribes, and creating a charter that guaranteed rights for all residents, Muslim and non-Muslim alike.
His Character: A Living Example of the Quran
وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ
“And indeed, you are of a great moral character.”
His wife Aisha (رضي الله عنها) was asked about his character. She replied:
"His character was the Quran."
Among his celebrated qualities: mercy toward all, including enemies; justice that held himself to the same standards as everyone else; profound humility — he mended his own clothes and sat with the poor as freely as with leaders; patience through the loss of six children, decades of persecution, and immense personal hardship — always with trust in ALLAH.
The Seal of the Prophets
Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) is the final prophet. There is no prophet or messenger after him.
مَّا كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ أَبَآ أَحَدٍ مِّن رِّجَالِكُمْ وَلَٰكِن رَّسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَخَاتَمَ ٱلنَّبِيِّينَ
“Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but the Messenger of ALLAH and the Seal of the Prophets.”
Why 'Final' Matters
Because Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) is the last prophet, the message he brought — the Quran and his Sunnah — is complete and perfectly preserved. There is no need for further revelation; the guidance for all of humanity until the Day of Judgment is already here.
Sent to All of Humanity
The Prophet ﷺ was not sent for one nation or one era.
وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ
“And We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds.”
His message — that one God created us with purpose, that justice and mercy are foundations of a good society, that death is not the end — is as relevant today as it was 1,400 years ago.

A Note of Respect
When the Prophet's ﷺ name is mentioned, Muslims say "sallallahu alayhi wa sallam" (ﷺ) — "may ALLAH send blessings and peace upon him." This is an act of obedience to ALLAH's command in Quran 33:56.
