The recorded sayings, actions, approvals, and descriptions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him). Together with the Quran, authentic Hadith are primary sources of Islamic guidance.

The Quran is the speech of ALLAH. Hadith are not the Quran. Hadith are reports about what Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) said, did, approved, or was described as.
Authentic Hadith help Muslims understand how the Prophet ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) taught, practiced, and applied Islam. Through Hadith, Muslims learn how to pray, fast, give zakat, perform Hajj, show good character, and follow the Sunnah.
Authentic Hadith must be treated with care. Not every narration attributed to the Prophet ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) is authentic. Muslim scholars developed a careful science to verify narrations and separate authentic reports from weak or fabricated ones.
Hadith means a report or narration. In Islamic studies, a Hadith is a report about the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him).
Hadith are important because they preserve the Sunnah — the guidance, way, and practice of the Prophet ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him).

Muslims do not learn Islam from the Quran alone while ignoring the Prophet ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him). ALLAH commanded Muslims to obey the Messenger and follow his guidance.
The Quran gives the foundation. The Prophet ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) explained and lived that guidance. Authentic Hadith show Muslims how Islam was taught and practiced in real life.

Prayer
The Quran commands Muslims to pray. Authentic Hadith show exactly how the Prophet ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) prayed — the positions, words, and timing.

Hajj
The Quran commands Hajj for those who are able. Authentic Hadith show how the Prophet ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) performed its rites step by step.

Good Character
The Quran commands righteousness and good manners. Authentic Hadith show the Prophet's ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) mercy, patience, honesty, and daily character.
Hadith
A report about what Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) said, did, approved, or was described as.
Sunnah
The guidance, way, and practice of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him).
Sahih
Authentic. A technical grading used by qualified Hadith scholars for narrations that meet strict conditions.
Hasan
Good. A narration accepted by Hadith scholars, though not at the same level as sahih. This is an introductory definition only.
Da'if
Weak. A narration that does not meet the conditions of authentic transmission.
Fabricated narration
A false report wrongly attributed to the Prophet ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him).
Isnad
The chain of narrators who transmitted a Hadith from person to person.
Matn
The actual text or wording of the Hadith.
Important Note
These terms are introduced only for basic understanding. This platform does not teach beginners to grade Hadith by themselves. Hadith grading is a specialized field for qualified scholars.
Muslim scholars did not accept every report without checking it. They examined the chain of narrators, the reliability of each narrator, the accuracy of memory or writing, and whether the report had hidden problems or contradictions.
This careful work became known as the science of Hadith. It helped preserve the Sunnah and protect Muslims from false statements being attributed to the Prophet ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him).

The Prophet ﷺ (Peace Be Upon Him) warned strongly against lying about him.
“Whoever tells a lie against me intentionally, then let him take his seat in the Fire.”
